Los Gatos High School offers two choral levels: Concert Choir and Chamber Choir.

The Concert Choir is comprised of students in grades 9-12 and meets during 1st period throughout the year. This choir is open to any student interested in a performance-oriented class, although prior experience in choir or private vocal lessons is a plus. Concert Choir performs in school concerts, assemblies, and adjudicated festivals. This course will expose students to many styles and periods of music appropriate for their ability. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the use of basic music vocabulary, including terms, signs, and symbols utilized in music reading.

The Chamber Choir is comprised of students in grades 10-12 and meets during 2nd period throughout the year. This is a select artist-level mixed choir, with membership by audition only. Students must have advanced music literacy and vocal technique in order to be in Chamber Choir. The ensemble studies and performs challenging music in all styles and languages. Chamber Choir performs in school concerts, adjudicated festivals, and community events such as Los Gatos service club luncheons.

Students in either ensemble may receive up to 3 years of Performing Arts credit (grades 9-11) and 1 year of Applied Arts credit (grade 12).

This week, senior Nitin Srinivasan earned a spot in the 2016 All-National Honors Ensemble for Mixed Choir, which will be held in Grapevine, Texas on November 10-13, 2016.  Nitin has done Coastal Region, State and National Honors Choirs for 4 consecutive years now.

Anaheim is all about that Disney magic...and the annual Heritage Festival, where student musicians compete to bring the very best to Mickey's ears. The 2016 Fest took place March 31-April 3 and earned major accolades for the LGHS Music program. LGHS String Orchestra captured a Silver Award, while LGHS Choir took Gold and qualified to perform at the upcoming National Invitational Festival of Gold as well as the 2017-2018 National Youth Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall.

In addition, several students were recognized for Outstanding Solo Performances, including Orchestra's Elisabeth Chang and Choir's Sarah Aaldering, Alex Coady, and Natalya Temple.

Also of note, Orchestra student Megan Auyeung has won several piano competitions in 2016, including First Place at the Golden Era of Romantic Music International Competition and at the American Fine Arts Festival. These honors mean Megan will also be heading to New York this summer for two performances at Carnegie Hall!

Freshmen Miranda Hunter (alto), Devon Ottinger (soprano), and Katie Taloff (alto) are the latest LGHS students to earn spots in a prestigious honor ensemble. All three were selected for the California All-State JH Choir, which consists of outstanding vocalists in grades 6 through 9. The choir will be among several all-state ensembles that will perform at the California All-State Music Education Conference, taking place at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel and Convention Center February 11–14, 2016.

. . . Kudos to Miranda, Devon, and Katie!
